The Disability Rights Commission (DRC) has produced a new Code of Practice covering responsibilities of access that businesses and services need to address from October 1, 2004 .
This is a legal document that will be taken into account by the courts. It gives businesses guidance on how they should carry out their duty of compliance is available from The Stationery Office (TSO) – tel: 0870 600 5522. A copy of the code will cost £13.95 in all formats.
Although owners of businesses may find these duties daunting, the DRC says they are quite straightforward.
The commission’s website also notes: “They will bring you more business from disabled people and others. Disabled people have £40 billion a year to spend on goods and services– that’s a lot of customers with money to spend.”
