Hearing aid users now have access to a piece of kit that will help them make and receive mobile phone calls when they’re on the move, instead of having to rely on text messaging.
PicoLoop from iHear Ltd is an induction loop sound amplifier which can be connected to a mobile phone or sound system with a single wire to give the hearing aid wearer a far higher quality of sound.
The device, which looks like a flip phone, can be hand-held or clipped to a pocket or lapel for hands-free use.
In mobile phone mode, a noise-cancelling microphone reduces background noise and a multifunction switch allows the user to answer and send calls as well as initiate voice functions on suitable phones.
A special version of the PicoLoop – the NanoLoop – is available with special controls for people with stiff fingers, perhaps through arthritis.
“The PicoLoop offers fantastic clarity and volume when using a mobile phone, even for those with severe hearing loss,” said iHear’s Ron Haston.
“The discreet, modern design means that users appear to be using an ordinary mobile phone. We have employed the latest digital technology and called on all our knowledge of the hearing impaired market to produce this market leading product.”
The device, which is compatible with most makes of mobile phone and has already been launched in parts of Europe by Vodafone, operates on rechargeable batteries which give up to four hours of calls on a single charge and 30 days standby.
The recommended retail price for the PicoLoop and NanoLoop devices is £89.99.
