The school, located in Colchester, is being refurbished and extended with the building of three new boarding houses to cater for 64 children, including 34 boarders.
Taking advantage of the latest in special learning and living technologies, combined with established teaching and care methods, the new school will be considered to be one of the most modern Schools in Europe for children with autistic spectrum disorders.
“The EAS is a truly worthwhile organisation, promoting the welfare, education and care of people with autism to further enrich the local community,” said Ray Hopkins, managing director of Gray Dawes. “We are very proud to support the EAS at this exciting juncture of their history.”
“The contributions we have received from local businesses such as Gray Dawes has been overwhelming and we are truly grateful,” said Anna Trovell, Fundraising co-ordinator at the Essex Autistic Society. “With this community support, combined with our talented teaching and care staff and modern learning and living facilities, the new Doucecroft School will help to make such a difference to the lives of these children and their families".
