“Hearing Holidays” in Spain, Cyprus, the Netherlands and the UK are now possible thanks to a scheme launched by charity Hearing Concern and hearing-aid manufacturer Widex.
Widex has weighed in with sponsorship to help fund lipspeakers to accompany hard-of-hearing holidaymakers enabling more people to take advantage of the Hearing Concern holiday scheme.
“Thousands of adults in Britain miss out on time away because they have a hearing loss severe enough to deter them from taking a holiday,” said the charity’s director Philip Barron.
“We have taken a lead in addressing this problem with these likpspeaker-led breaks and the kind support of Widex allows us to offer a wider range of affordable holidays.
“There are many hard-of-hearing people who have not had the confidence to take a holiday in years. Travelling with communication support and other hearing-impaired people allows them to relax and enjoy themselves.”
Mainstream travel industry companies, including Eurostar, Page & Moy, Saga Holidays, Travel Editions, Woods Travel and Crusader Holidays are backing the scheme to support travel arrangements.
Supplies of brochures are available from Philip Barron (Hearing Concern), 4 Anselm Close, Croydon CRO 5LY.
